This is the heart of why families choose us for Gaya. The Gaya pandas, the hereditary ritual priests, are widely known for pressing large and rising fees on grieving families, quoting one figure and demanding another mid-rite. This is real, and it is distressing on the worst of days. Our promise is plain:

• The dakshina is discussed and agreed clearly, in advance, so you always know the figure before the rite begins.
• We keep the priest's fee separate from and outside our package rate, so it is transparent, never buried or marked up by us.
• We do not upsell "premium" pujas or larger salvation for larger fees; the merit is in devotion, not in the size of the payment.
• We stand with your family through the rite so no one is pressured.

Hotels. You choose the category. Gaya and neighbouring Bodh Gaya (about 13 km away) together hold the belt's better hotels. The 3 and 4-star options are readily arranged in and around Gaya. For 5-star comfort the best inventory is usually at Bodh Gaya, which we tell you plainly so your expectation matches the room. All stays include breakfast and are chosen for a calm base and easy early departures for the morning rite.

Vehicles. Ancestral rites are a family duty, and families travel together, so the vehicle scales with your group. A Sedan suits a couple or three, an Ertiga or Innova Crysta a mid-size family, and a Tempo Traveller a large multi-generation group. All are private, air-conditioned, with an experienced driver for the whole rite circuit.

• Timing: Pind Daan can be done through the year, but Pitru Paksha, 26 September to 10 October 2026, is the most sacred fortnight, with Sarva Pitri Amavasya (10 October) the most important day. Gaya is very full then, so book early.
• Who performs it: traditionally the karta, often the eldest son, wearing a kusha-grass ring; but daughters and other family members may perform it, and we guide this respectfully without judgment. Rites can also be arranged for those unable to travel.
• Observances: the karta typically keeps a sattvic diet and light fasting around the rite; simple, clean or traditional dress is worn (the priest advises on specifics). It is a solemn day, so plan it as such.
• Bring: the ancestors' names and, if known, the tithi of passing; any family this rite is being performed for should be noted for the priest.
• Materials: pind ingredients and puja samagri are simple and bought fresh; we arrange them at fair cost so nothing is inflated.

• You want a sightseeing holiday; this is a solemn ancestral rite, planned with that gravity, not a leisure tour.
• You want the cheapest possible arrangement above all; we will not cut corners on an honest priest or a dignified plan to hit a rock-bottom price.
• You expect luxury resorts throughout; Gaya's top-tier stays are limited and often at Bodh Gaya nearby, and we tell you so honestly rather than overpromise.
• You want us to bundle and mark up the priest's dakshina invisibly; we keep it separate and transparent, on principle.
