📌 Quick Answer

The top tourist places in Ayodhya are the Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir (Ram Lalla), Hanuman Garhi, Kanak Bhavan, the Saryu ghats and the aarti at Ram Ki Paidi, the ancient Nageshwarnath Temple and Dashrath Mahal. Beyond these, see Treta Ke Thakur, Sita Ki Rasoi, Guptar Ghat, Mani Parvat, the Tulsi Smarak Bhawan and Ram Katha Park. Two unhurried days cover the city well. To plan an Ayodhya darshan with a local guide, call or WhatsApp +91 7302265809.

Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Ram on the bank of the Saryu, is reborn as one of India's great pilgrimage cities, crowned now by the grand Ram Janmabhoomi temple. But Ram's city is far more than one temple: it is a web of ancient shrines, royal sites of the Ramayana and ghats where the evening aarti rises over the river. Having guided pilgrims here across the years, let me take you through all the places worth your time in Ayodhya, in the order I would show my own guests. Browse our Ayodhya Varanasi Tour Packages to plan the trip with a local guide.

Ayodhya Tourist Places: Key Takeaways

  • The heart: the Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir, Hanuman Garhi and Kanak Bhavan, the three essential darshans.
  • The river: the Saryu ghats and the evening aarti at Ram Ki Paidi.
  • The ancient city: Nageshwarnath, Dashrath Mahal, Treta Ke Thakur and Sita Ki Rasoi.
  • Quieter corners: Guptar Ghat, Mani Parvat, the Tulsi Smarak Bhawan and Ram Katha Park.
  • Best plan: two unhurried days, ideally around Ram Navami or Deepotsav.

A Word From Your Guide

I am Rajeev Sharma, guiding pilgrims across Ayodhya, Kashi, Prayagraj, Naimisharanya and Bodhgaya for more than forty years. Ayodhya has changed beyond recognition since the Ram Mandir, with new roads and crowds, so the art now is to see the grand temple well and then slow down for the older, quieter shrines that carry the real soul of the Ramayana. Let me take you through every place worth seeing. I speak Hindi, Telugu and Kannada, so South Indian families are looked after in their own tongue.

The Top Tourist Places in Ayodhya

If you see only a handful, make it these six, the heart of Ram's city:

PlaceWhat it isGood to know
Ram Janmabhoomi MandirThe grand temple at Lord Ram's birthplace, with Ram LallaGo early; security is tight, carry little
Hanuman GarhiThe hilltop Hanuman fort-temple, Ayodhya's guardianClimb the steps; visited before Ram Lalla by tradition
Kanak BhavanThe golden palace temple of Ram and SitaFamous for its richly dressed deities
Ram Ki Paidi & Saryu AartiThe riverfront steps and the grand evening aartiDusk is the time to be here
Nageshwarnath TempleThe ancient Shiva temple said to be founded by Ram's sonThe old religious heart of the city
Dashrath MahalThe palace site of King Dashrath, Ram's fatherA living temple in the old city

Give the Ram Mandir the early morning when it is calmest and keep the Saryu aarti for dusk.

More Places to See in Ayodhya

With a little more time, these deepen the pilgrimage, each tied to the Ramayana:

  • Treta Ke Thakur - the temple said to stand where Ram performed the Ashwamedha yagna.
  • Sita Ki Rasoi - the symbolic kitchen of Sita, near Ram Janmabhoomi.
  • Guptar Ghat - the serene ghat where Ram is believed to have taken jal samadhi.
  • Mani Parvat - the ancient mound with fine views, linked to the Ramayana.
  • Tulsi Smarak Bhawan - the memorial to Tulsidas, with evening Ramayana recitals.
  • Ram Katha Park - the open-air cultural park that hosts Deepotsav events.

The Faizabad Heritage Nearby

Just across from Ayodhya lies old Faizabad, the Nawabi twin city, with handsome monuments worth an hour if you have time, the garden tomb of Gulab Bari and the grand Bahu Begum Ka Maqbara among them. They are a quiet, secular contrast to the temple town and tell the later chapter of the region's story.

Faizabad's monuments are a short drive from the Ayodhya temples; we can add them for those who like heritage as well as darshan.

Experience Deepotsav and Ram Navami

Ayodhya is at its most magical during its festivals. Deepotsav, on the eve of Diwali, lights lakhs of lamps along the Saryu and draws the whole country; Ram Navami, Ram's birthday in spring, fills the Janmabhoomi with celebration. If your visit can be timed to either, the city is unforgettable, though far more crowded, so plan well ahead.

How Many Days Do You Need?

Two unhurried days cover Ayodhya well: the grand temple and the main shrines on the first, the river, the quieter sites and Faizabad on the second. For a careful plan, see our Ayodhya itinerary. A single long day can cover the essentials if you start early.

Best Time to Visit Ayodhya

Ayodhya is open all year, but the cool months from October to March are the most comfortable for darshan and the ghats and they hold the great festivals of Deepotsav and the Kartik fairs. The summer is very hot and the monsoon raises the Saryu. For the full picture, see our guide to the best time to visit Ayodhya.

How to Reach Ayodhya for These Places

Ayodhya is now well connected by its new airport, the Ayodhya Dham railway station and fast roads. Many pilgrims drive in from Lucknow to Ayodhya, the nearest big city or come from Varanasi to Ayodhya and from Kanpur to Ayodhya. Many also carry on afterwards from Ayodhya to Prayagraj for the Sangam, making a wider circuit.

The Honest Bit

Let me be straight with you. Ayodhya today is a vast construction and pilgrimage site, thrilling but crowded and still settling, with long queues and tight security at the Ram Mandir and new roads not yet finished. The grand temple is the draw, but if you stop there you miss the gentler, older Ayodhya, Nageshwarnath, Guptar Ghat, the Saryu at dusk, which is where the Ramayana still breathes. Give the Mandir the early morning, carry little and keep the afternoons for the quiet shrines. As planned, Ram's city moves you rather than tiring you.

Why Experience My India Is the Right Choice

I am Rajeev Sharma, guiding pilgrims for more than forty years across Ayodhya, Kashi, Prayagraj, Naimisharanya and Bodhgaya. For your Ayodhya visit we arrange it all: a smooth Ram Lalla darshan, Hanuman Garhi and Kanak Bhavan, the Saryu aarti at dusk and the quieter shrines and Faizabad heritage, with Kashi and Prayagraj added for the full circuit. I speak Hindi, Telugu and Kannada, so South Indian families are at ease. With our Ayodhya Varanasi Tours team, Ram's city is taken care of.

Tip from Rajeev Sharma: Begin at Hanuman Garhi at first light, as tradition asks, then Ram Lalla's darshan while the queues are short and the morning cool. Keep Kanak Bhavan and the old-city shrines for late morning, rest in the heat and return to the Saryu for Ram Ki Paidi and the evening aarti, the finest hour in Ayodhya. Keep the second day for Guptar Ghat, Mani Parvat and, if you like heritage, the Faizabad monuments. Carry little to the Mandir, for security is strict.

Frequently Asked Questions

The top places are the Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir (Ram Lalla), Hanuman Garhi, Kanak Bhavan, the Saryu ghats and the aarti at Ram Ki Paidi, the ancient Nageshwarnath Temple and Dashrath Mahal.

Plenty: Treta Ke Thakur, Sita Ki Rasoi, Guptar Ghat, Mani Parvat, the Tulsi Smarak Bhawan and Ram Katha Park, plus the Saryu aarti and the Faizabad heritage monuments nearby.

Two unhurried days cover Ayodhya well, the grand temple and main shrines on the first, the river, quieter sites and Faizabad on the second. A single long day can cover the essentials if you start early.

Darshan runs in morning and evening sessions with an afternoon break and the exact hours change seasonally and on festivals. Go early, carry little and expect security checks; we keep guests updated on current timings.

By tradition, pilgrims visit Hanuman Garhi first, to seek Hanuman's blessing, before the darshan of Ram Lalla at the Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir.

Ram Ki Paidi is the series of ghats on the Saryu where the grand evening aarti is held and where lakhs of lamps are lit during Deepotsav, the most spectacular sight in Ayodhya.

October to March is the most comfortable and it holds the great festivals of Deepotsav (eve of Diwali) and the Kartik fairs. Ram Navami in spring is another grand but crowded time.

Ayodhya has its own airport and the Ayodhya Dham railway station and is well linked by road from Lucknow, Varanasi, Kanpur and Prayagraj. See our city-to-Ayodhya guides for exact routes and times.
